This Western-meets-sci-fi khichdi is a somber and humorless affair with none of that popcorn fun that you expect from a film with a goofy title like this.Aside from the first alien attack sequence on the town, the rest of the action in this film feels fairly standard, including the tedious final act. Both Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford appear to be taking this film more seriously than they’re meant to, but how much can you blame them when they’re saddled with such trite materialI’m going with two out of five for Cowboys & Aliens. There's not a single piece of line that you carry back home, a brazen insult to the genre which is credited with some of the greatest quotes in movie history. Until it arrives at its breathtaking climax, Cowboys & Aliens is who-is-who guess game with the Apaches, thieves and bandits intersecting Jake (Daniel Craig ) at the Old West.What I find disturbing here is the marked lack of humour, the laughter and mirth. Cowboys & Aliens takes itself far too seriously and ends up only as a coldly detached saga of men in ruthless duel with a power that can never be realistically defeated.

There are cowboys, and there are aliens, and then there are cowboys and aliens. And still, all it comes down to is gold. Based on a graphic novel, this is one of those films which makes considerable effort to set up the atmosphere, the details, the actors, the setting – besides experimenting with what is potentially a great idea -- and then just goes plain lazy with what to do with them.

What’s Good: Daniel Craig’s performance; the cinematography. What’s Bad: The hackneyed and boring script; the lack of any emotional connect with the audience; the indigestible premise of the film. Verdict: Cowboys & Aliens is a disappointing fare. Even Daniel Craig’s name will not be able to do much for the film at the Indian box-office.

Cowboy and Aliens starts out great as they really attempt to make it a Western and stick to Western sensibilities. Then, it degenerates in to a big fat throw-everything-at-the-screen-and-see-what-sticks insult. By the end you feel cheated of everything: fun adventure, a tangible sense of peril, anything approaching drama and even a sense of wonder. You experience or feel NONE of those things watching this movie.
